Pilot Supplies

Everything you need to succeed

Essentials

  • Headset - Hear and be heard.
    - Our starter recommendation: David Clark H10-13.4 with fixed-wing plugs.
    - Top of the line: Bose A20
  • Logbook - "Each person must document and record [flight] time in a manner acceptable to the [FAA]:..."

    Ref: 14 CFR §61.51

  • Kneeboard - Great for writing down weather conditions or ATC instructions.
    - If you plan on flying with an iPad, consider a kneeboard with an iPad mounting system.
  • Flight Bag - Something that will store all your supplies while providing easy access at a moment's notice.
  • VFR Sectional Chart - Electronic maps are useless in the event of an electrical failure. Bring paper charts as a backup.

Optional

  • Fuel Strainer - These are included on the airplanes but its good to have a back up.
  • Sunglasses - It can be very difficult to see obstacles without proper eye protection.
  • Foreflight - As an "Electronic Flight Bag (EFB)", this app consolidates all the information you need during a flight into one single app.
  • ADS-B IN - Receives ADS-B signals and outputs them onto your moving map, revealing the location of other air traffic in your area.
